Great site. I'm runnig my own lightcontroler system, PC based with ext fader desk. Until now the whole thing is based on I2C com.( don't lol, it's working with 75m kabel, and updates 64ch 25 times per sec). but to bee compitable with the rest off the worl , i need it to be dmx. I'm building all the equipment myself, and looking for ideas. If you can't join them - beat them. Bo Dalbjerg

I enjoyed your web site it had the information that I have been looking for. I am trying to bring some lighting elements into our church. Our budget for drama presentations is less than a $1000 for the year and we usually spend most of it for our Christ as production, which we put on as a whole church and provide it free to the public. I have improvised by making par 38 light cans out of the large coffee cans and using certain outdoor par 38 lamps. I found the old style par 38's to give off a more cons stant light pattern. I am currently trying to find cheap alternatives to some of the lighting equipment that is avaiable and would like to computerize the light system that I have put together. I am planning to use a computer to control the analog dimme s that we currently have but would also like to have something available for controling NSI or DMX 512 dimmers. You wouldn't happen to know about the NSI Micrplex control signal. Keep up the good work I know that I appreciate it. Mike Brenner

A good resource website for DMX-512 information. Good use of animated gifs to demonstrate the DMX-512 signal in action. Perhaps a section on ethernet is needed, due the incresed use of this protocol in the lighting industry.

Thank you Ujjal, everything I always wanted to know about DMX and more.... One of my new hobbys is the drive-in disco show of a cousin of mine. Resently he bought 2 Martin Roboscans and a college disco show he sometimes works with has some other Martin toys. Since the first time I played with this stuff I was wondering if and how it would be possible to control the scans via a computer of some kind instead of having to reprogram the controller at any new gig. And of course I want to find myself instead of bying of the shelf equipment. Well know I have a starting point and if anyone of you reading this has done so to and have some great ideas, feel free to E-mail me. Ujjal keep up the good work and I'll let you know my great or not so great experiences with this new hobby Robert

Brother you made my day, when I heard "Candle in the Wind" I could not believe it. Your site is very well thought out and I found all of the information I have been looking for to date. My lighting involement, like you , started in the early 70's with high school productions at my local theatre. For the last 7 years I have been doing 2 shows a year , one each with the Scout Association (possibily you would known them as the Boy Scouts in India) and the Girl Guides. These shows run for between 5 & 10 preformances each , in one theatre , with a single performace in one of the "country" areas of South Australia. These shows have the variety show format so there are a large number of Q's and et changes during the typical 2 and half hour running length. I started working live as a Telecommunication Tech for the only telephone company in Australia at the time , doing R&D & Prototyping , them moved into Line Transmission maintaince. For the last 10 years I have been working as a UNIX system & Network Admin strater ( for give the spelling mistakes , the spell checkers make you lazy ) for Telstra with a move to IBM Global Services , with in the last year , when Telstra out sourced their IT development groups. Back in 1995 I visited your country , Madras , to install and configure the operating systems for some HP series computers being installed , on a contract by Telstra , for alarm monitoring of the Southern Telephone Region ( I think ) from Madras. Keep up the good work you are doing as I now will be able to start on a project of converting a 21 channel analogue console & dimmer set to DMS512 operation for a mate of mine who built it 10 or so year back. ( running the 20 or 40 meter control cable is ecomming a pain in the rear end every time we move into a theatre) All the best Andy

Hi there, May I first of all say that you have an excellent web-site. Unbelievable! Imformative yet entertaining. I really enjoyed touring around and will certainly try to spread the word about the site. Like yourself (a Piscean)I love this industry and have enjoyed lighting for a long time.I am one of the "guys" who designs and builds Elektralite consoles in the US of A. So I'm bias....but at least I admit it!! We are also the USA distributors for Clay P ky and MA lighting. Once again excellent work...my personal best wishes and I hope that we can keep in touch Best regards, Norm
